If you have been experiencing the world of vaping for a while now, then surely you have heard the words ‘sub-ohm vaping’ or ‘MTL vaping.’ That is because these are two very common styles of vaping. But what are they? And how do they work? And what is the difference between them? These are questions we will be answering in this blog because there are many times that people get these two styles confused when there are actually some stark differences.

Now, back to the blog. It doesn’t matter what kind of vape device you are using; all of them contain certain components that are universal. Without them, a vape device can’t work properly

  • Battery
  • Tank
  • Coil
  • E-Liquid

We mention this because the difference between Sub-Ohm and MTL vaping relies on the variation between the components.

What is MTL?

Let’s first answer this question. MTL is standard practice for most vapers as it works as a normal cigarette would. You take an inhale of the vapor from the device. And then you do another inhale, taking the vapor into your lungs. MTL devices are usually known to be smaller than sub-ohm devices, and they operate at lower settings. Due to this, they produce lower vapor and resemble a conventional cigarette much more.

Their resistance will also be above 1 Ohm, and their wattage will be below 20 watts.

What is Sub-Ohm?

As the name suggests, sub-ohm devices are those that have the resistance of the coils installed in the device below 1 Ohm. They can be 0.9 Ohm, 0.5 Ohm, 0.25 Ohm to as low as even 0.15 Ohm. Those who use a sub-ohm device use a technique known as DTL (Direct-to-lung). In this method, the vaper opens their diaphragm and inhales the vapor from the device directly to their lungs.

The wattage of sub-ohm devices varies a lot, but they usually operate between the 40-80W range. However, enthusiast devices such as mods go above 100W and even reach 170W at the highest. These devices are perfect for cloud production.

Using the Right Battery?

Battery size matters. The coils used in MTL vaping don’t really require much energy to achieve the kind of resistance that they work at. That is why MTL vaping machines will work on just about any kind of battery. Just remember to adjust the settings of your MTL device accordingly.

On the other hand, when it comes to sub-ohm devices, you need a strong battery. That is because sub-ohm devices work at 40W and above. With many devices even working on 80W, 100W and higher. If you use an MTL battery in a sub-ohm device, either the device just won’t work, or it will drain the battery incredibly quickly. That is why, if you are sub-ohm vaping, a large battery that is compatible with your device is required.

Does E-liquid Matter?

The wrong e-liquid will hinder you from getting the most out of your vape device. And the wrong e-liquid can sometimes even negatively affect how your device works. The thing is e-liquid matters much more than you might think.

Getting the right ratio of VG/PG in e-liquid matters. A higher ratio of VG is good for sub-ohm tanks because it helps in producing the large amounts of vapor that most people are chasing with sub-ohm tanks.

While a higher ratio of PG is perfect for MTL vape devices because it helps in maximizing flavor and carrying nicotine well, that is why it is perfect for those who are looking for a conventional cigarette experience.

Conclusion

The difference between MTL and sub-ohm vaping isn’t confusing if you know how it works. And hopefully, with this blog, you are now aware of it.
